This past weekend, thousands of people gathered in cities around the country to raise awareness of Aboriginal deaths in custody and say that Black Lives Matter. Sophia Morris has rounded up four ways non-Indigenous Australians, like herself, can learn and show support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities:
  1. Consume Indigenous media. IndigenousX is a great resource and so is NITV.
  2. If you can, donate to a cause like Sisters Inside, which advocates for Indigenous women dealing with the prison system. Or help out this fundraiser for the family of David Dungay Jr., an Aboriginal man who died in custody in 2015.

3. Read books by Aboriginal authors. There are many options, but Dark Emu, Growing up Aboriginal in Australia, and Welcome to Country are good places to start.

4. Learn about the Aboriginal history of your local neighbourhood. This website gives a great overview of the Aboriginal history of the Sydney area, and this map is a really useful resource.
