Bridget Gamble is The Cottage Coordinator at SECC, supporting people living with dementia through music, connection and everyday moments of care.
She recently joined SECC from a role as a Leisure & Wellness Coordinator in residential aged care. At The Cottage, she’s found a place to put her voice, her music and her love of community to work, all in service of the people she supports.
“It’s the people and the community I love the most,” Bridget says. “I really like the intergenerational part of this work. Adults are overlooked a lot after they hit a certain age, and I like reminding them they’re still themselves, not just ‘an old person’.”
Music runs through everything Bridget does at The Cottage. “My voice is my main instrument,” she says. “I’ve been singing my whole life, and I love sharing it with clients here.” For people living with dementia, music can reach places words sometimes can’t, sparking memory, connection and joy.
Outside work, Bridget is often found making something with her hands.
“I’m always crafting: knitting, crochet, painting, embroidery, you name it.”
Right now, that’s a paper mache trinket shelf and a crochet crab bag.
