Behind the life-sized cheque is something even bigger: a community standing alongside women and families affected by domestic and family violence.

South Eastern Community Connect (SECC) is pleased to share that Ruming Yang has been named Westfield Eastgardens Local Hero for 2026, receiving $20,000 to support our domestic and family violence services.

Ruming and SECC CEO Melissa Collins accepted the funding, which will help people experiencing domestic and family violence access the safety, practical assistance and support they need to move forward.

For Ruming, this work is about being present, listening without judgement and helping people navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Her care, compassion and commitment make a real difference to the women and families she supports.

This recognition is a wonderful acknowledgement of Ruming’s contribution, but it also represents the power of community support to turn generosity into practical help for people who need it most.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who voted, shared Ruming’s story and helped make this possible. And thank you to Westfield Eastgardens for recognising Ruming and supporting SECC’s vital work.

Congratulations, Ruming, and to all the 2026 finalists. We’re proud to see the dedication and generosity of people making a difference in our community celebrated.
