Did you know only 15 per cent of Australians over 65 are exercising as much as they’re meant to?

Numerous studies have shown physical activity is vital to healthy ageing.

Yet less than 15 per cent of adults over 65 years are meeting Australia’s recommended physical activity guidelines.

Barriers to physical activity can include:

• Lack of interest.
• Shortness of breath due to a range of health issues.
• Joint pain.
• Perceived lack of fitness.
• Lack of energy.
• Doubting that exercise can lengthen your life.
• Fear of injury.
• A low income.

But physical activity, according to a recent Swedish study, can add years to your life, even if you start late.

But it’s not just about adding years to your life… it’s about adding life to your years.

Getting moving can help:

• Boost your energy
• Maintain your independence
• Protect your heart
• Manage symptoms of illness or pain
• Manage your weight.

And regular exercise is also good for your mind, mood, and memory.

Exercise improves your sleep, and boosts your mood and self-confidence.

There are so many good reasons to start small and build up your strength and fitness.
