State Member for Heffron Ron Hoenig was one of the distinguished guests at the launch of the Bayside in Pictures photo exhibition this week in Eastlakes Shopping Centre.

Guests also included Crown Group Retail Centre Manager Geoff Moses and retailers such as Maurice Di Blasi, who appears in two of the photos on display.

To celebrate the region’s fascinating history, South Eastern Community Connect, in partnership with Crown Group and Eastlakes Shopping Centre, has installed a range of historic photographs in the centre for shoppers to enjoy.

The 22 photo boards are dotted around the centre, with information sheets explaining the history of the photos near each one.

Titled Bayside in Pictures, the exhibition includes streetscapes and historic landmarks in Eastlakes and surrounding suburbs, as well as photos of people who have helped build the community over the years.

The exhibition celebrates 40 years of South Eastern Community Connect’s work in the local area.

From cherished buildings such as the Marina Picture Palace through to watering holes such as The Lakes Hotel, each photo captures a slice of history that reflects a significant chapter in the history of South Eastern Sydney.

Based in Eastlakes Shopping Centre, South Eastern Community Connect is a not-for-profit organisation managed by a voluntary board of directors made up of local community members and services.

South Eastern Community Connect has been running for 40 years and provides a diverse range of community service programs and activities for people living in the local government areas of Bayside, Randwick, Woollahra, Waverley, and City of Sydney.

On Saturday 10th November, the charity’s 40th Anniversary celebrations will culminate in a monumental community celebration at Eastlakes Reserve, which will feature live music, delicious food, and workshops for all ages.

In the meantime, drop into Eastlakes Shopping Centre throughout the month of October to enjoy a trip down memory lane with South Eastern Community Connect.
