Find support for the dementia journey at The Cottage
Our service at The Cottage in Rushcutters Bay is something we’re really proud of.
We’re able to offer personalised support for people living with dementia, their families, and carers.
The Cottage is our dedicated dementia day centre, providing a safe, secure and friendly environment where clients can find a sense of belonging and ownership.
We believe a dementia diagnosis shouldn’t be seen as an impediment to enjoying life and participating in the community.
The Cottage offers a range of services to people with dementia and memory loss, from the active through to frail aged persons.
The service is a mixture of centre-based day care and diversional therapy.
The Cottage is open from Monday to Friday and clients engage in a number of activities drawn up by the Diversional Therapist.
These include ‘hidden memory’ and social discussions, games, quizzes, art therapy, crafts, light gardening, videos, gentle exercises and afternoon drives.
We also have a lunch outing once every six weeks and encourage local community groups to volunteer their time in singing, music, or creative entertainment for our clients.
Clients can attend with a GP diagnosis or by self-referral, a referral from a social worker or case manager, health professional, aged care services, an aged care assessment team (ACAT), family member, or doctor.
The daily cost starts at $30.
The cottage does not cater for residents of hostels, nursing homes, or people requiring personal care or attention, such as toileting, feeding, wandering, or extreme behavioural issues.
The Cottage is open to people living in the Woollahra, Botany Bay, Randwick, City of Sydney and Waverley council catchment areas.
