Dementia Support at The Cottage

We pride ourselves on offering personalised support for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Dementia-specific help is available through in-home and social support, flexible respite, and our dedicated dementia day centre: The Cottage.

The Cottage provides a safe, secure and friendly environment where clients can find a sense of belonging and ownership.

We believe a dementia diagnosis should be not be seen as an impediment to enjoying life and participating in the community.

We also provide respite and support for loved ones and carers.

The Cottage offers a range of services to people with dementia and memory loss, from the active to the frail.

The service is a mixture of centre-based day care and diversional therapy.

The Cottage is open from Monday to Friday and clients engage in a number of activities drawn up by the Diversional Therapist. These include ‘hidden memory’ and social discussions, games, quizzes, art therapy, crafts, light gardening, videos, gentle exercises and afternoon drives.

We pick up and drop off our clients, and provide morning tea and a nutritional lunch to meet a wide variety of dietary needs.

We also have a lunch outing once every six weeks and encourage local community groups to volunteer their time in singing, music, or creative entertainment for our clients.

Clients can attend with a GP diagnosis or by self-referral, social worker/case manager, health professionals, aged care services, an aged care assessment team (ACAT), family member, or a doctor. The daily cost starts at $30.

The cottage does not cater for residents of hostels, nursing homes, or people requiring personal care or attention, such as toileting, feeding, wandering, or extreme behavioural management issues.

The Cottage is open to people living in the Woollahra, Bayside, Randwick, City of Sydney and Waverley council catchment areas.
