What’s not to love about yoga?

It builds flexibility and strength, and can also prevent falls.
Just one session of yoga per week can increase stability.
And it can also help with back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Yoga is also known to relieve stress and improve mood.
At South Eastern Community Connect, we believe in the benefits of yoga.
So we’ve partnered with Musculoskeletal Australia to launch a new yoga exercise program.
Alongside our Seniors’ Fitness class on a Tuesday, our Gentle Seniors’ Yoga classes will launch on Thursday 20th February.
These classes form part of Sport Australia’s Active Neighbourhoods for Older Australians (ANOA) project.
Musculoskeletal Australia is spearheading the project in collaboration with the University of Sydney – and we’re grateful to be a part of it.

* Maria Okladnikova is a Hatha Yoga teacher who comes from Russia and lives in in Australia.
“I was a professional dancer, but my occupation didn’t satisfy me, ” she says.
“I was looking for something deeper and more relaxing, where I could put the meaning to the movement.
“I’m a very curious person and also heard a lot of fascinating opinions about yoga practice, so I decided to try it out.

Yoga instructor Maria Okladnikova will bring her extensive training to Mascot this month.

“Going deeper into my practice, I found not only physical benefits from the practice but psychological meaning.
“Yoga became a real finding to satisfy both of my physical and mental health. “A few years later I completed my education as an international Hatha Yoga Teacher over 200 hours, and started teaching.
“I really enjoy spreading information and knowledge about Yoga, asanas, meditations, energy and health. I hope I can help you to make you more confident, healthy and happy. Whether you’ve never tried ÿoga or you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced Yogini, why not start now?”
