Sydney Eastern Community Connect (SECC) is thrilled to announce the relaunch of its popular Toy Library, redesigned to better support all families — including children with disabilities and additional needs.
Thanks to a grant from Toy Libraries Australia, the refreshed SECC Toy Library is now of only two inclusive libraries across Sydney. It offers a collection of over 1000 toys, with a growing range of sensory-friendly and inclusive play resources. The library supports children aged 0–12 years and includes developmental play options designed to suit a wide variety of interests, abilities and learning styles.
“Play is vital to every child’s development and wellbeing,” said Ruming Yang, Acting Hub Manager at SECC. “This refresh ensures families of children with disabilities and additional needs feel welcomed, supported and confident accessing toys that meet their child’s unique needs.”
To ensure quality and suitability, all items have been carefully reviewed by occupational therapy postgraduate students from the University of Sydney, supporting meaningful learning, engagement and play for all abilities.
Top reasons for parents to join the SECC Inclusive Toy Library:
- Affordable annual membership of just $50 per year
- Easy-to-use app with a seamless click-and-collect process
- A cost-effective and sustainable way to rotate new toys and keep children engaged
- Borrow up to 6 items per fortnight from a large catalogue suited to broad interests
- All membership fees are reinvested directly back into SECC community programs.
Starting on February 10, SECC also invites families with children who have disabilities or additional needs to attend Stay and Play sessions every Tuesday at the SECC Hub, 1007 Botany Road, Mascot.
These sessions offer quiet play time, friendly support from the SECC team, and the opportunity to “try before you borrow.”
