Welcome Ashleigh, our new Deputy CEO. Ashleigh joined us this week with more than 10 years of experience in the community sector:
Q: What is your favourite thing about your job?
A: I really enjoy working in the community sector as it gives me an opportunity to meet a variety of people from all walks of life, each of whom I find has the ability to teach, inspire or motivate me in some way.
Q: What was the first job you ever had?
A: My first job was as a Swim School Instructor teaching beginner swimming lessons to children.
Q: Can you play any instruments?
A: I have been playing the piano since I was 3 years old and can also play the clarinet and guitar.
Q: Where is your favourite place in the world?
A: I love to visit Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, it’s a small little village in a valley surrounded by the Swiss Alps with a 300m-high waterfall in the centre of the village, the local people are lovely and it’s absolutely stunning everywhere you look – you feel like you’re in a scene from the sound of music when your there.
Q: If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?
A: I would love to go to Canada and see the Canadian Rockies mountain range, I also enjoy skiing and Canada has some of the best ski fields in the world so that would also be on my bucket list.
Q: What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
Henry, the Delta Therapy Dog, and his owner David will be regular visitors at The Cottage bringing smiles and cuddles to our dementia day centre.
It has been a long wait at the centre for a furry companion but it was well worth it. Clients, Henry and David enjoyed each other's company as well as a walk in the sun at Rushcutters Bay this morning.
Delta Therapy Dogs is a heartwarming program that brings the joys of animal companionship to those who need it most. Delta’s amazing and devoted volunteer Therapy Dog Teams brighten the lives of an estimated 20,000 Australians in hospitals and care facilities every week.
We look forward to more canine company next week!
Our volunteers Gill and Peter (left) met The Honorable Carmelo Pesce, Mayor of Sutherland Shire at the recent NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards. Peter and Gill represented our 45 devoted volunteers who between them donated more than 12,000 hours over the past financial year. Thank you for everything you do!

An exciting new program is coming to our SECC Playgroups in early September! Let's read is a "book club" for tiny tots.
Come and read a book at playgroup - we have books in English and many other Languages, including bilingual. Borrow it for a week, read it every day and come back to share how you both liked it before discovering the next book.
“Based on the research evidence, Let’s Read’s vision is for all Australian children to share books, stories, songs and nursery rhymes every day from birth with the important people in their lives” Let’s Read Handbook 2017.
Proudly funded by South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
Come along to our Monday Playgroup at Gardeners Rd Public School or to Eastlakes Multicultural Playgroup at Eastlakes Public School at 10.00am on Tuesday the 4th & 12th of September to learn about what we can share with you.
Playgroup families ask for a parking permit for nearby parking during the sessions.
