About Generations of Eastlakes
Last Monday, locals from all generations and cultural backgrounds had their photo taken in a free, professional photo shoot to create a portrait of South Eastern Sydney’s rich community. More than 40 portraits from the shoot will now be on display, celebrating diversity, friendship and neighbourhood spirit.
“Sydney’s South East is unique, full of vibrant cultural diversity and with friendships that run deep through the generations. It is a place where everyone can feel like they belong and are accepted for who they are and for what they bring to our community’, explains Kate Melhopt, executive officer of South Eastern Community Connect.
“We are so grateful for everyone who participated in this project because it really captures what we are all about. Our community centre exists to support everyone in the community – from the first weeks of life to old age, and from all corners of the planet,” says Kate, “but we are not just providing services for individuals to increase each person’s quality of life. We are here to strengthen our community and the friendships and bonds between families, neighbours and friends. That’s the glue that holds a community together, and our purpose is to grow and support our people’s social networks and supports.”
“Generations of Eastlakes” itself would not have been possible without the spirit of community. Eastlakes Shopping Centre, Snappr photography and the local shops all chipped in to make this project possible”, she ads.
The photographs will be on exhibition from May 5 to May 14 at Eastlakes Shopping Centre.
During the opening event on Thursday from 10:00 to 1:00 there will be free activities for all ages and refreshments at the South Eastern Community Connect’s office at the shopping centre.
